IRON DAMES BECOMES THE FIRST ALL-FEMALE LINE-UP TO ENTER LE MANS HYPERPOLE
  • - Iron Dames becomes first ever all-female line-up to qualify for Hyperpole session at Le Mans
  • - Fourth place finish in yesterday’s rain-interrupted qualifying session gave Iron Dames first Hyperpole place
  • - Rahel Frey set sixth fastest time in Hyperpole session after hard-fought lap

Italian racing team, Iron Dames, has qualified in sixth place for the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans, after becoming the first all-female line-up to qualify for the Hyperpole session.

Iron Dame, Rahel Frey, had set a time of 3:54.081 in yesterday’s qualifying before the session was red flagged due to a car stopped on track.

But, in this evening’s Hyperpole session, it was Rahel again that pushed hard against the fastest cars at Le Sarthe to set the sixth fastest time.

Iron Lynx Team Principal, Andrea Piccini, said: “Yesterday was a great day for the Iron Dames. Making it into Hyperpole is such a proud moment for everyone in the team, and it shows that we’re competitive and that the work from the past few years is now paying off.

“Sarah, Michelle and Rahel have created a very strong chemistry this season, and they’re achieving good performances.

“It is a shame as it was looking like we were going to get P4, but due to track limits we finished in P6. We’ve raced hard and fairly, and we’re well prepared to have a good race. We believe there’s a great potential for a special result, so now, we all prepare for the big race on Saturday now!”

The 90th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is set to start at 4pm CET on Saturday 11th June.
